I would like to introduce the bronze egg figurine that we are selling. The bronze egg figurine that we are selling is a William James bronze egg figurine made with a variety of non-ferrous metals creating a pleasing pattern. The bronze egg figurine is one of the rare Wisdom Bronze Egg figurine’s that the late William James made weighing approximately 4 lbs. and mishearing 3” in diameter and 4” tall. I have one bronze egg figurine in this pattern. In the post card that I found with the bronze egg figurine’s William James uses the word approximately when describing the dimensions and weight. I found this bronze egg figurine in an antique stores estate sale along with a post card. The post card is how I have determined that the late William James is the maker of this bronze egg figurine.
William James would go through a process of finding patterns of various diameter pipes, wires, tubing’s and brazing rods of non-ferrous metals creating a flower pattern within bronze or copper tubing. He would put several of those assembles inside a larger piece of tubing and then those assemblies into a pipe. At this point he would pour pigmented resin through all the little spaces that was left in between all of the individual elements. This created one heavy pipe filled solid with nonferrous metals and resin. At this point he would cut the pipe into several sections about the height that he would want one of his bronze egg figurine to mishear. At that point he would put this slug into his lathe and turn one half of the bronze egg figurine and then turn it around and turn the other half creating a bronze egg figurine.
This is the same technique that I use when I create the ornamental inlays that you see in my custom handmade furniture. Instead of turning the pipe assembly of non ferrous metals on a lath I polish the end of the pipe and cut an 1/8” piece off. At this stage the inlay is quite fragile and I carefully place it into one of the various locations of my chairs. After pouring clear resin over the inlay which fixes it in place I sand the area flush with the wood creating a stunning centerpiece for the headboard and other locations on my custom furniture.
